Havanese

Havanese

The Havanese is Cuba's national dog and the only breed native to Cuba, developed from now-extinct Blanquito de la Habana and Bichon-type ancestors. The breed became beloved by Cuban aristocracy in the 18th century and nearly disappeared following the Cuban Revolution before being revived by breeders in the United States. Havanese are cheerful, affectionate, and highly social dogs with a silky, wavy coat. They are excellent companion dogs and do well in families, with other pets, and in various living situations.

Feeding Guide

Havanese do well on two small meals per day of high-quality small-breed food. They can be prone to weight gain, so portion control is important; free-feeding is not recommended. Dental health is a concern for the breed, so dental treats or regular teeth brushing is advised.

Water Needs

Havanese have moderate water needs; always provide access to fresh water, and ensure extra hydration is available during warm weather or after active play sessions.

Exercise Guide

Havanese need around 30 minutes of moderate daily activity including walks and interactive games. They are agile and enjoy learning tricks and participating in dog sports like agility and rally obedience.
