Before Publication
Every calculator and article is checked against a named veterinary or nutrition science source before it's published — see our Editorial Policy. Where a formula is directly implemented in a calculator (for example, the RER/MER calorie formula or the WSAVA Body Condition Score scale), we document the source alongside the code so it stays traceable — see How We Calculate Results.
After Publication
- Articles and calculator reference material are periodically re-checked against current guidance from organizations such as WSAVA, AAHA, AVMA, and AAFCO.
- If a cited organization updates its guidance in a way that changes a recommendation on this site, we update the affected page and note the change.
- Reader-reported issues (see our corrections process) are investigated and, where confirmed, corrected promptly rather than on a fixed schedule.
What This Process Does Not Do
This review process checks that our content accurately reflects published veterinary and nutrition guidance. It is not a substitute for an individual veterinary exam — a review confirms a calculator or article matches general guidance, not that its result is correct for your specific pet.
