Our Goal
PetCalculator exists to translate established veterinary nutrition and health science into calculators and guides pet owners can actually use. Every calculator and article on this site is built to help you have a more informed conversation with your veterinarian — never to replace one.
Where Our Information Comes From
We do not invent formulas or guidelines. Every calculation on this site is based on published veterinary or nutrition science — organizations such as the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA), the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO), and reference works such as the Merck Veterinary Manual and university veterinary school resources (e.g. Cornell Feline Health Center, VCA Animal Hospitals). See our Sources & Citations page for the full reference list, and the specific sources cited at the bottom of each article.
How We Write and Maintain Content
- New calculators and articles are only published once their underlying formula or guidance can be traced to a named veterinary or nutrition science source.
- We avoid absolute claims on individual health outcomes — every article is written as general, educational guidance, not a diagnosis.
- Content is reviewed periodically against current guidance; see our Review Process for details.
- We do not accept payment in exchange for favorable coverage of any product, food brand, or veterinary service.
