Vizsla

The Vizsla is a Hungarian hunting breed with origins dating back to the Magyar tribes of the Carpathian Basin over a thousand years ago. It served as both a pointer and retriever for Hungarian nobility and is distinguished by its striking golden-rust coat and matching nose. Known as the 'Velcro dog,' the Vizsla forms an exceptionally close bond with its family and dislikes being left alone. It is one of the few breeds that can serve as both a versatile gun dog and a gentle household companion.

Feeding Guide

Vizslas are lean, muscular dogs that require a high-quality, protein-rich diet to support their active lifestyle. Measure portions carefully as they can be prone to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus); feeding two smaller meals per day rather than one large meal is strongly advised. Avoid vigorous exercise immediately before or after meals to reduce bloat risk.

Water Needs

As a high-energy sporting breed, Vizslas need plentiful fresh water throughout the day, especially after field work or intense exercise sessions.

Exercise Guide

Vizslas require at least 60–90 minutes of vigorous exercise daily, including running, swimming, or structured field activities. They are excellent jogging and cycling companions for active owners. Without sufficient exercise, they can become anxious or destructive.
