Pembroke Welsh Corgi

Pembroke Welsh Corgi

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is one of the oldest herding breeds, with origins in Pembrokeshire, Wales, dating back over a thousand years—possibly brought to Britain by Flemish weavers in the 10th century. Despite its small stature, the Corgi was bred to herd cattle by nipping at their heels, and it retains the intelligence, agility, and bold character of a true working herder. The breed gained worldwide fame as the preferred companion of Queen Elizabeth II.

Feeding Guide

Corgis have a strong appetite relative to their small size and are prone to obesity, which places extra stress on their long spine and short legs. Carefully portioned meals twice a day with minimal treats help maintain a healthy weight. A diet formulated for small-to-medium active breeds with controlled fat content is ideal.

Water Needs

Pembroke Welsh Corgis are moderately active and need consistent access to fresh water throughout the day. During herding activities or vigorous play, ensure water is readily available to prevent dehydration.

Exercise Guide

Corgis require about 45–60 minutes of exercise per day to satisfy their herding instincts and energetic nature. They enjoy brisk walks, fetch, agility courses, and mentally stimulating games. Despite their low-slung build, they are surprisingly athletic and hardy.
